The quartet all National Servicemen were not granted permission from the country’s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and Singapore Police Force to join up with the squad in Doha. Izwan Mahbud and Juma’at Jantan were injured. Aleksandar Đurić and Mohamed Hafiz bin Rahim were dropped as the Singapore coach wanted to blood younger players for their last game. Goalkeeper Lionel Lewis had retired at the end of 2011 at the age of 29.
