Qusai Munir leaves Iraqi team

Midfielder Qusai Munir has left the Iraqi team in Doha excusing himself from selection for the Australia game, declaring that it was time to give the new generation a chance in the national team.

The 30 year-old player, currently on the books of Doha based Nadi Qatar, after spending a season in the Iraqi league with Nadi Baghdad, spoke to Iraqfpg.com said that with deep regret and sadness, he excused himself from team selection after he felt that Brazilian coach Zico was unwilling to give him a starting place and felt marginalised even in training since his performance in the Arab Cup.

“When I spoke with the coach about leaving, he did not show any emotion but he told me directly that you can go to your club Nadi Qatar, and went on to say that he preferred to give an opportunity for younger players to take their chance and complete the glories of their predecessors because he saw that the team needed to continue to rebuild for the 10 years to come.”

Qusai made 86 international appearances for the national team since making his debut in 2003 against Bahrain, with his last appearance coming in the Arab Cup in the 1-1 draw with Sudan.
