Prime Minister agrees for state to pay for Hassan Balah’s medical treatment

In response to this report from Hurra Iraq broadcast on May 12, Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki has agreed for the state to pay the expenses for the former Iraqi international Hassan “Balah” Ali to have treatment abroad. The announcement was made during a meeting with the Director of the Office of the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces General Farouq Al-Araji, the former national player of the 60s, Hassan Balah has been forced to remain at home for the past three years as a result of difficulties in walking due to knee problems.

Sad to see Hassan Balah and his generation suffering in these circumstances, these players were regarded as ‘national treasures’ by the state during their playing careers and were thus forced to decline professional contracts offers from abroad and stay in Iraq playing as amateurs or semi-professionals.
